One of my favorite hobbies is trying to recreate recipes I try and love, like this amazing seafood bisque that was popular at a local restaurant in our town that closed. Yeah, I know… super exciting hobby.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I must admit that this is a recipe that I did not recreate, as it is based on the famous Dole Whip, which I have never actually gotten to try.
What I do know:
- I love pineapple
- My kids view pineapple as the best dessert ever
- I was trying to make frozen pineapple taste as delicious as fresh pineapple and this recipe was born
What is Pineapple Whip?
I actually had no idea what on earth Dole Whip was, as apparently this is a treat served at Disney parks and other select areas. The idea of taking six small children to any theme park sounds more like Dante’s inner circle than a fun vacation when the kids are this young.
Thus, I’ve never been to Disney with my kids and none of us have ever tried the famous Dole Whip.
So how do I know this recipe tastes like it?
Here’s how:
I have a friend who is the connoisseur of all things Disney. She goes every year with her kids. She gets invites to their special themed parties. They have more pictures, pins and apparel than the actual parks do.
Like Dole Whip…
One day, I made this pineapple whip because we were all swimming with our kids and she declared that it tastes very similar to the pineapple magic served at theme parks.
Of course, this prompted a search of what on earth Dole Whip was and a realization that I had accidentally made this treat with real-food and allergy safe ingredients.
So now, this pineapple whip (or pineapple clouds as my three-year-old calls it), is a favorite summer treat at our house.
The best part:
No baking, no ovens and no junky ingredients. In fact, it is one of my easiest recipes of all time.
If you’ve tried the real thing, I’d love to hear your opinion of this! If you haven’t- just enjoy this in all its amazing pineapple-ness without need for petty comparisons!
How to Make Pineapple Whip
- 2 cups frozen pineapple
- ½ cup milk of choice (coconut milk is great in this recipe)
- 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice (optional)
- Add ingredients to high speed blender or food processor and blend until smooth. It is very important that the pineapple is frozen or this will not work.
- As soon as it is smooth, remove and scoop into individual serving cups.
- Serve and eat immediately.
- Enjoy!
What do you like to make for quick desserts? Will you try this?
